Jesus said, “I am the Alpha and the Omega,
the First and the Last,
the Beginning and the End.”

EDGE Summer 2007 - Integrity

Welcome

Offer people Coke and Chips or raw vegetable and water as they come in

Have written on slips of paper the following words: “stand”, “firm”, “against”, “all”, “pressure” & “X”.

If less people, take out the ‘all’. If more people add in the words “and” & “brave”

Give each person a random slip of paper with one word on it (one gets the ‘X’)

Their task is to discover the message. The person with the ‘X’ is the traitor.

No-one is allowed to talk. Each person draws out clues to their word… other members guess by writing a word under the drawing until the correct word is found.

The traitor can pretend that any word is on their sheet – their job is to mislead the group whilst seeming to help. If someone thinks they know the traitor, try to ignore them and make others aware of your suspicions. (No talking remember!)

Talk about how it is not nice not to be trusted, and also the meaning of the message.

Worship

Thank God for his promises.

Word

Read Daniel 1:1-7

What were the Babylonians trying to do to their captives?

How did they go about this?

Does the modern world try to do this to Christians?  How?

Read Daniel 1:8-14

What choices did Daniel and his friends have?

Why didn’t they do the others?

Why did they choose the option they did?

What was the price they had to pay?

Do you have to make similar choices?

Integrity.

What do you understand by that word?

Is it important? Why?

What type of people compromise their integrity?

Who would you describe as a person of integrity?

Read Daniel 1:15-21

Why did the ten day vegetable trial work?

(Stood together as a group, putting God first, God was with them, they were likeable people, made reasonable requests)

Witness

Give everyone a piece of paper and a pen(s) and ask them to create a mask that depicts a false front they are tempted to wear at school, college or work.

Get them to explain them to each other.

Finally take them in to and destroy / burn / tear up whilst praying that you will each have strength to stand firm and brave, living lives of integrity
