Session 1

Living on the edge requires you to stand strong!

From start of Shrek to when the villagers run away (4½ mins)

Shrek is determined to keep his part of the world free from intruders - this is his swamp and he will stand up against anyone who tries to attack him or his swamp. By showing his size, his strength and his bad breath - he says "This is the part where you run away"

 You may decide to take a stand, but as you live in the world and just as you are getting ready to be strong, your conviction goes, your courage fails - something happens which makes it harder to stand tall.

 This is the part where you run away.

 You try and argue that it was impossible to stand strong.

 Living on the edge is where God wants us to be.

 No one ever said that living on the edge would be easy.

 Living on the edge requires courage.

 Living on the edge means we don't run away.

Keep your eyes open, hold tight to your convictions, give it all you've got, be resolute, and love without stopping. 1 cor 16:13

(Be on guard. Stand true to what you believe. Be courageous. Be strong. And everything you do must be done with love.)

Living on the edge enables you to be fully human

There's a lot more to an ogre than everyone thinks

Shrek tries to describe how there is more to him than just a senseless green ogre. I'm like an onion - I have layers - "There's a lot more to ogres than everyone thinks"

You may consider yourself to have loads of layers or you may be a simple soul… but there is a lot more than you than everyone thinks.

To live on the edge is to be complete - to live on the edge is the only way we can be fully human.

Bible Bit

You don't need a telescope, a microscope, or a horoscope to realize the fullness of Christ, and the emptiness of the universe without him. When you come to him, that fullness comes together for you, too. Col 2:8-10

Be fully human - get close to God - if we were designed to be spiritual… only when we get close to God will we be fully human

Session 3

Living on the edge is exciting

When you're "Living on the Edge," you have to trust God. Challenge and adventure lie ahead, some degree of trepidation lies within, but you know that you are held secure by the strong cords of God's love.

Living on the edge can be lonely

It can be lonely - doesn't have to be - support, friendships, care, love

Your friends are so important - choose them well - support them - don't let them go!

Living on the edge is where life begins
