CELL GUIDE No 2 – AUTUMN 2002
WELCOME
I’m going on a picnic
In a circle, in turn each player says “I’m going on a picnic and I’m taking...(an item)”. The leader (and anyone else who knows the game) tells them whether they can take the item or not. The rule is, they can take the item if it begins with the same letter as their name (either first or second!). The idea is to work out the rule, i.e. what’s going on!
WORSHIP
Back to the music this week. Listen to a song – and talk about what it is celebrating and be thankful!
WORD
Mark 1:16-20
16 One day as Jesus was walking along the shores of the Sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and his brother, Andrew, fishing with a net, for they were commercial fishermen. 17 Jesus called out to them, “Come, be my disciples, and I will show you how to fish for people!” 18 And they left their nets at once and went with him.
19 A little farther up the shore Jesus saw Zebedee’s sons, James and John, in a boat mending their nets. 20 He called them, too, and immediately they left their father, Zebedee, in the boat with the hired men and went with him.
Were these the only men Jesus could have chosen? The ones who happened to be in the right place? If they hadn’t followed would Jesus simply have asked the butchers on the next street corner?
What was the last thing you did ‘immediately’? As soon as you heard about it – you dropped everything and just did it?
What about when someone is doing/saying something that goes against Christianity? Do you immediately respond? Is it right to?
What does it mean to be a fisher of people? Are you? Any good stories? Success titbits people can share – when group members have ‘had a bite’!
And finally…
Come on – be honest – what is stopping you – getting up and following Jesus with every part of your life?
WITNESS
Pray for each other to be fishers of people – and name the people you could be fishing for!
