Worship

23 So be careful not to break the covenant the LORD your God has made with you. You will break it if you make idols of any shape or form, for the LORD your God has absolutely forbidden this. 24 The LORD your God is a devouring fire, a jealous God.
Deut 4:23-24

What right has God got to be jealous?

God’s kind of jealousy is appropriate and good. He is defending his word and his high honor. He makes a strong, exclusive demand on us: We must treat only the Lord—and no one else in all the universe—as God

Confess to him that you have put other things first? (perhaps by drawing them down and then throwing the paper away.)

Listen to a song to help you all praise God

Word

What are the results of human jealousy?
BIBLE VERSE: He had large flocks of sheep and goats, great herds of cattle, and many servants. And the Philistines became jealous of him. So they filled up his wells with earth—all those dug by the servants of his father Abraham. (Genesis 26:14-15, TLB)
Human jealousy is most often destructive rather than constructive.  Discuss

BIBLE VERSE: Of course Saul was very angry. “What’s this?” he said to himself. “They credit David with ten thousands and me with only thousands. Next they’ll be making him their king!” So from that time on King Saul kept a jealous watch on David. (1 Samuel 18:8-9, TLB)
Human jealousy can destroy relationships.  Discuss
Love is the best weapon against jealousy. Discuss.

BIBLE VERSE: Let us behave decently, as in the daytime, not in orgies and drunkenness, not in sexual immorality and debauchery, not in dissension and jealousy. Rather, clothe yourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ, and do not think about how to gratify the desires of the sinful nature. (Romans 13:13-14, NIV)
Human jealousy leads to sin.
Becoming like Christ is the answer to the problem of human jealousy.
