Jesus said, “I am the Alpha and the Omega,
the First and the Last,
the Beginning and the End.”

CELL GUIDE No 6 – Autumn (but really Winter) 2003 – Praying for Christmas
Welcome
Everyone writes down three things relating to Christmas (be varied – not lights, presents, food!) (If you know you will only have 2 or 3 people – put in extra ones)
Put them in a hat – then one by one take them out and draw the item so that everyone else can guess what it is.
Worship
Write down / draw all the things that God, Jesus and heaven had to do in readiness for first Christmas.
Be thankful – not only for what God did but also for the fact that Jesus was born in a cowshed, visited by stinky shepherds, kept safe from Herod etc.
Be thankful – not only for the details around that first Christmas – but also for all that Jesus’ coming achieved.
Word
What makes something important or significant?
Read Luke 2:1-20
Go through the story again and note down all the insignificant things…
The places:
 Bethleham
 Manger
 Fields
Is there any place you go that is too insignificant for God?
The people
 Mary & Joseph
 Shepherds
 Innkeeper
Are you or anyone you now too insignificant for God?
Event
Just the payment of taxes / census
Just the birth of a baby
Just the low/dangerous job of looking after sheep
Is any task too insignificant for God to use?
Witness
Talk about what you will be doing around Christmas – ie the places / people you will be with.
Pray for each other:
Firstly – that in amongst whatever each person is doing they will remember Jesus, not fall in to traps of greed, envy or jealousy
Secondly they will be a positive witness to whoever they are with and that they will be able to have a positive impact on every non-believer they spend Christmas with.
