Jesus said, “I am the Alpha and the Omega,
the First and the Last,
the Beginning and the End.”

CELL GUIDE No 1 – Autumn 2003 – Coming to Pray?
WELCOME
Have three bowls… then in pairs they come up with things to write to put in each bowl.
For one bowl, write things that are fragile or can be broken (eg glass, ice, skin, paper).
In the second bowl write objects that are stronger (tree, plane, bones)
In the other bowl write things that could cause damage…(eg stones, car, nuclear bomb, very sharp pencil, time) as many as possible
Everyone then takes a piece of paper from each of the first two bowls… keeping their paper secret from others – placing one under their left hand – one under their right
In turns people take one piece of paper from the third bowl and choose to apply that ‘destruction’ to one of someone else’s objects. The person then says what their object is and everyone decides if the object is broken by the act of damage! (eg a stone could smash glass but would not damage a tree.) If the object is damaged beyond repair the person screws up their paper – if it is a bit of damage they can tear a corner off, if no damage do nothing. Keep going round (subsequent people drawing ‘damage cards’) until there is only one object left – the winner!
WORSHIP
While listening to a track… any worship type thing… get a big bit of paper and write on it reasons to pray. Eg ‘people get better’, its good to say “thank you”, it builds your relationship with God etc.
Thank God for all these reasons…
WORD
Have another bit of paper and write down the different attitudes we should have as we come across them
Read Hebrews 4:14-16
What was the role of the high priest?
Holy of holies – the link person between God and man
What is the difference between a normal great high priest and Jesus?
He understands us – he’s been tempted in every way…
How should we approach God’s throne?
With boldness & confidence – but also respect…

Summarise the events leading up to Joshua 7:6. The people had a spectacular victory over Jericho and then they were defeated by the small city of Ai.
He was humble… what does it mean to be humble before God? And how can we be both bold and humble?
Joshua’s prayer is also very honest… how is he honest?
 Are our prayers honest?
WITNESS
Be honest in your prayers. Allow people to write down prayers first – then read them out or not within the prayer time.
