CELL GUIDE No 4 – Summer 2003 – It gets me so annoyed!
WELCOME
Play a game – something like UNO (or similar type of simple game) and after a ‘normal’ game start to annoy the others…. Deliberately dropping cards, going to toilet, forgetting a rule, adding in a new rule, generally complain etc!
WORSHIP
Everyone thinks of one action / one thought / one attitude that would have really annoyed God… and thank Him that he forgives and restores
WORD
Read Mark 11:12-14
Why did Jesus ‘curse’ the tree – it wasn’t even the right time for figs!
Does this give us an example to lash out when we get annoyed
(The tree should have been producing edible buds – as it wasn’t it wouldn’t produce any fruit that summer)
What are the dangers of getting annoyed – be as creative / visual / dramatic here as your group wants / needs to!
How can we try and reduce the harm we cause when we get annoyed?
Would it not be better to reduce the amount we get annoyed…?
Read Mark 11:15-19
If this was you – you go into the city, see various things happening in Church…. And when you leave the city, a group of people are trying to kill you…. What would get you most angry?
What is the difference between Jesus getting and showing anger here and when I get angry because the opposition score a goal that is clearly offside or when someone does something I asked them not to…? (Two sides of a big sheet of paper?)
The perfection of Jesus
His anger comes from the way people are behaving towards God – not himself
WITNESS
Anger management… pray that people will control their anger / frustrations / annoyances and get people to pray that God will change them
Colossians 3:10 “You have begun to live the new life, in which you are being made new and are becoming like the One who made you”
(You may like to give out the attached sheet! – From some geezer who died in AD65)
