We are part of the local Baptist Network - APB - the Alliance of Portsmouth Baptists. This group consists of the 4 churches on Portsea Island and us! Devonshire Avenue, Immanuel, North End and Tangier Road.

(No doubt - it’ll soon have a web-page) - We seek to support one another - through prayer and fellowship. - through sharing resources and helping in practical ways - we’re constantly discovering new ways to show our alliance!

We also relate to loads of other churches in the area, whether that’s through Living Word, or Youth Leader’s Network or evangelical churches in Portsmouth... We keep busy

Mission areas

As a church we support the following Mission Causes:

The first B.M.S. missionary, William Carey, went to India in 1793. Since then the work has expanded greatly and today BMS supports missionaries in 29 countries. Missionaries serve as Pastors, theological teachers, agriculturalists, doctors and nurses and many other occupations, with the aim of bringing the gospel to a needy world. We support the B.M.S. by financial giving and by our interest and prayers. The Birthday Scheme encourages subscribers to contribute to the medical work of BMS on the occasion of their birthday.

Home Mission represents the missionary work of our denomination in this country. Through H.M. small churches, which otherwise could not afford their own pastor, are enabled to have a full-time ministry and churches are planted. Similarly the work of our Area Superintendents and the service provided by the Secretaries and staff at Baptist House are financed from this fund. Other ministries include chaplaincies of Universities and colleges, and industry.

Inspired by John Wycliffe, who was the first to translate the bible into English in the 14th Century, the mission was born in the 1930s in the USA with a vision for the translation of Scriptures in the world. It became established in Britain in 1960s, and there are now 350 UK workers and over 5000 world wide. It is a mission with the fundamental task of enabling people world-wide to possess and read scripture for themselves. Many other missions rely on the work Wycliffe does. We especially remember Mark and Ali Datsun in Ivory Coast.

TEAR Fund is an interdenominational Christian Charity operating throughout the world wherever there is a real need like floods, earthquakes, hurricanes or famine. Christian love is shown by sending out technical experts to help the people to become self sufficient.

SOLENT YOUTH FOR CHRIST - taking good news to Young People

SYFC has been in operation since the autumn of 1989 and has, since that time, adapted and changed its ministry to suit the changing culture of young people. The YFC Centre functions with a Director and Executive Committee, a Council of Reference and workers, full or part time. Areas in which SYFC work include Schools (assemblies, lessons, Christian Union and J Team), Rock Solid Youth Clubs, Youth Cafe and a Theatre Company which gives young people the chance to participate in spreading the good news. “Word Up”, a youth worship service in held once a term in conjunction with local churches

THE TRABOULSIS

The Rev Edgard Traboulsi and his wife Nada serve the Lord in the Baptist Church in Beirut, Lebanon. They exercise a Bible Teaching and evangelistic ministry as they seek to build the church and extend God's Kingdom in a troubled part to the world. They also run a Bible College to train pastors. Links are maintained through prayer letters and visits that Edgard has made to this country.
