the First and the Last,
the Beginning and the End.”

CELL GUIDE No 1 – Spring (but really Winter) 2004
Welcome
Either
Show a random clip from a film – one that has a proper plot, don’t tell anyone what the plot is, where this fits in etc. was it funny / exciting / dramatic….
Or
Give everyone a jigsaw piece (from a proper jigsaw – ie one where each piece doesn’t show Tinky Winky’s head! But not so difficult it would take you 10 hours to finish!) Then get everyone to describe how their piece fits in to the whole picture.
Difficult huh?!?
Do the jigsaw puzzle, with each person remembering their piece, then disassemble the puzzle again and get everyone to describe how their piece fits in….
Talk about how it is so much easier to understand the detail if you know the whole – and how this is totally true with the Bible. If we know the story then each mini-adventure fits in.
Word
In today’s meeting we will try and piece together all the little bits of information we have into one big picture.
On a large bit of paper – at least 8ft long! – get the young people to write on it – one-by-one – with a piece of Bible info – this might be a name, an event, a place, book or an abstract word. Write it big if it’s a significant word, small if insignificant… Try and fill the whole piece of paper. (No piece of info is too obscure to be important)
On 16 sheets of paper that have 16 titles (below)…. Start linking together pieces of info that are on the large piece of paper and write them onto the small sheets (ie Joseph, Abraham, sacrifice son, ladder
If you have loads of info on the large sheet – this may take some time…have drinks available…
Once you have finished transferring information – get the group to try and order the 16 sheets – perhaps by giving each person a few sheets to order then getting people to work out etc… make sure everyone is involved
Once the order is done… draw out the ‘story’ of the bible.
What is the central theme? Are there any bits that don’t seem part of the ‘big picture’
How many different ways does God try to restore relationship with his people?
Would it make a good film? How could it be done?

Witness
What hopes have you got for this year – pray for each others hopes and fears. But pray most that each other will grow in their relationship with Jesus.
Give out the Bible Sampler – I’ll try and produce one of these each time to encourage them to get into the Bible. If anyone is already using some notes and these would make them guilty… don’t bother… but hopefully they will help.
