Jesus said, “I am the Alpha and the Omega,
the First and the Last,
the Beginning and the End.”

Walk Worthy
Welcome
Who knows any magic tricks… have a pack of cards or coins available to see if anyone can perform a trick. Do you have one you could show?
Why are illusions fun?
In this day of photo imaging do we believe any image? Take a look at the attached images. (First one meant to be from camera found in wreckage of Twin Towers – many problems with it. Observation towers not open till after planes hit, plane not in shadow like face, plane approaching from wrong direction etc… (beware they are the last 2 pages in this document – big colour things? You may simply want to show them on your computer screen!)
How do we know they are doctored – but not real?
Worship
Think of all the things that God has done that David Blaine would love to be able to imitate! Thank God that he does not need to use trickery or illusion or psychological techniques…
Word
(We continue our investigation of Thessalonians. Last time we read Paul’s detailing what he knows about the Thessalonians.)
Read 1 Thessalonians 2:1-16
What motives do people have for doing things?
Think of teachers, film stars, do-gooders, astronauts or other types of people – gather a list of many different motives as possible
Look at verses 3-7
What motives does Paul say they didn’t have?
What motive did they have?
What is your motive for doing things…?
Look at verses 2, 8 and 9 – whose Gospel is it?
How does this effect how we tell others?
Be amazed at all the things Paul did for the Thessalonians (v7b – 12)
You probably have people in your group who help at Campaigners, Kidz Klub, Junior Church… Ask “if you are willing to be a leader are you willing to do these things.
Alternatively / additionally get people to read 7b-12 exchanging the following words: “we” to “I”, “us” to “me”, “our” to “my”
Sometimes the old translations pick up meanings better… verse 12 in the good ol’ King James says “that ye would walk worthy of God”
How can we walk worthy of God?
Witness
The anger of God will come with force upon those who are against God (v16)… spend time praying for friends who don’t yet know God and who you could help to disciple when they turn to God!
