EDGE 2 – Autumn 2005
I know, you know, we know, they know
Welcome
Play the “I know, you know game”!
Everyone writes down a fact that they know and two or three they don’t! But the trick is to pich facts you know, that you think others won’t know, and to pick facts you don’t know that you think others will know!
Eg I know who topped the Australian Bowling Averages during this summers Ashes
I don’t know, but I think others might the “current UK number 1”
Then go round – firstly with each person saying the facts they know. (1 point for each one that no-one else knows)
Then go round again, with each person choosing someone else who they think will know the answer to the fact they don’t know! If that person does – get a point too!
The person with the most points is the “Inouno champion!”
Worship
Get a big piece of paper / card and in the middle write in big letters “We Know”
Then encourage people to write / draw anything they know about God. Once people have filled the sheet / exhausted their ideas use it as a praise offering to God. Either with open prayer or simply with silence while music plays… or whatever!
Thank God that he has revealed these things about himself. Thank Him that we know them!
Word
(We continue our investigation of Thessalonians. Last time we saw Paul escaping from the riot, so here he is writing to them – to let them know that he didn’t just run off and forget about them!)
Read 1 Thessalonians 1:1-10
Paul knows a lot about these Thessalonicans… (verse 3)
Why does he thank God for them?
Split them into 3 groups (ie 1’s or 2’s) have a debate where each person / group tries to convince others that faith, hope or love is most important.
These could be the marks of a growing Christian. How are you getting on in faith, hope and love?
Discuss each one: what do they mean. (We will be looking at Jesus’ return in more detail in future weeks)
What else does Paul know? (verses 6-8)
What 4 things did these new Christians do? (became like us, became like the Lord, accepted the message, became example to others.)
Talk about each one – the who, why and how.
Witness
Finally in verse 8 & 9 – Paul really encourages them…
What encouragements does he give? (The message is spreading because of their real faith; they stopped worshipping idols and they began serving the true and living God)
Pray for one another to be enthusiastic effective witnesses. And pray for particular people you want to witness to
Pray for each other to serve God wholeheartedly
