Jesus said, “I am the Alpha and the Omega,
the First and the Last,
the Beginning and the End.”
Rev 22.13
EDGE 1 – Summer 2005
Jesus – our friend
Notes: These next 5 sessions will be based on the Holiday Club material. Many of the young people clearly helped with this, but it would be good to get a more thorough look at these themes over the coming weeks
Welcome
Describe what your perfect day would be?
Worship
Tell the group the name of a song you are about to play – read out the words if people are unfamiliar with them. Encourage individuals / pairs to come up with prayers to be said either before or after the song. (Then do it!)
(Would be good to tell them here about Mike’s CD library idea… starting asap – info in the General Thought’s section of EDGE Online)
Word
(Grab a large piece of card… loads at Church – draw a large circle on it)
Read Exodus 33:7-17
How can we see God being a friend of Moses?
Draw / write down all the things in the circle. Also write down any other aspects of friendship with God
Why had God chosen Moses to be his friend? (Not cos he is perfect!!!)
Was it available to anyone but Moses at that time?
Read John 15:15
How amazing do you find it that because of Jesus this friendship is possible for us all?
Of the things in the circle – how many of these do you consider to have experienced?
Read James 4:4 (Don’t you realize that friendship with this world makes you an enemy of God? I say it again, that if your aim is to enjoy this world, you can’t be a friend of God)
Write down outside the circle all the things we could do / attitudes etc that could make us an enemy of God. (Think in terms of how we can let friends down eg gossiping about them, not inviting them to hang out with us, not standing up for them)
Witness
Read Romans 5:10-11 and reassure everyone that because of Jesus we are friends….
But say that we should still seek to find favour with God by doing the things that friends do!
Invite each person to stand/kneel inside the circle whilst the rest of the group pray for them. Praying that they would know God’s friendship and that they would be people who live as friends of God.
