EDGE 5 – Spring 2005 –
Be Encouraged… by knowing you are loved
Welcome
How many different ways are there of showing love to someone?
Either do this as a word based game: 2 teams playing ‘tennis’ with ideas
Or do it as a charade game – as each person thinks of a way they act it out for rest of group (could also do this with drawing)
Word
Read Mark 15:21-39
From verses 21-27…
In what different ways could Jesus have accepted help or even asked for help?
Notice the number of times ‘they’ or ‘the soldiers’ did things to Jesus
Why do you think Jesus refused to be helped?
What do you think of the line “He refused to be helped so we could be helped by God”
How is this a demonstration of love?
From verses 29-32…
Why do you think Jesus refuse to be saved? How could he have been?
What does it mean to say… “He refused to save himself so we could be saved”?
What are we saved from? How is this a demonstration of love?
From verses 33-36
Think of the cross from the point of view of Father God. How was his standing by a demonstration of love?
“He refuses to reject us so he was rejected by God”
How is this a demonstration of love?
From verses 37-39
How easily do we take for granted the concept of Jesus, the Son of God really dying?
“He refused to live so we could believe and live forever”
How is this the ultimate demonstration of love?
Worship
Be thankful that you are loved by God
Be thankful that Jesus refused to be helped, refused to save himself, refused to reject us and refused to live – because he loves us.
Witness
Pray for one another to be ambassadors of love
2 Corinthians 20
We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors as though God were making his appeal through us
