Jesus said, “I am the Alpha and the Omega,
the First and the Last,
the Beginning and the End.”
Rev 22.13
EDGE 1 – Spring 2005 – Be Encouraged
Welcome
Chill with a drink!
Get hold of some modelling clay (playdoh!) (special notice for Chris - some in MM cupboard – get as much as possible, mixed with sand on as many carpets – perhaps re-enact the Great Escape in trying to hide the sand round all the church… just to put a really big smile on your mum’s face!)
Challenge each person to model something to do with their Christmas – rest of group have to guess what it was / is.
Word
A bit of Bible turning today… but worth it….
God’s love – how does the Bible describe it?
Read each passage – ask the question “what does this say about God’s love?”
Have a sheet of large paper to write the answers / main themes on.
Talk about each passage – allow God to lead discussions about how these things are ‘real’. Give examples from own life or from what you know. Make them personal…
Luke 15:3-7 – Parable of Lost Sheep.
 God’s love searches for us
 God’s love forgives us
Romans 8:38-9
 God’s love is massive
 God’s love is everlasting
John 3:13-21
 God’s love is sacrificial
 God’s love saves us
Psalm 136:1-3
God’s love is inexhaustible – won’t run out
Ask each person to tell the rest of the group what aspect of God’s love they get most encouragement from, and what aspect of God’s love they need more of.
Worship
Encourage each person to thank God for his love
Witness
Draw a picture of a farmer in his field! Get everyone to draw / reveal where they are in the field. (Obviously everyone is now a sheep)
Are they close by the farmer, in a bunch of sheep, on own, away from the farmer, coming out from behind a bush, peering out, walking away, injured….
