EDGE 4 – Autumn 2005
Beware, beware, beware, beware, beware
Welcome
Chill with a drink!
Warning game.
Acting Version: Decide upon a place to base the scene (eg Himalayas) and each person comes us and acts out something the locals might try to warn you about. (eg bears, falling rocks, dangerous foods). Rest of team try to guess what they are being warned about
Written version: Each pair thinks of a different scenario and writes down 6 different warnings for that situation… then the other pairs have to guess what they have written down.
Worship
Why should we fear God? What does this mean?
Praise God that the awesome creator of the universe has made friendship between us and Him possible.
Word
We continue our look at Jesus’ Journey to Jerusalem (JJ2J)
Read Luke 12:1-7
First beware… what is it? (Hypocrisy – looked at last time)
Jesus adds an encouraging statement… why is fearing God a good thing?
Read Luke 12: 13-21
Second beware… what is it? (Greed)
Why does Jesus warn us against greed?
What should we be greedy for? (Verse 21) How is this possible?
Read Luke 12: 22-34
Third beware… what is it? (Worrying)
Why is it silly to worry?
What can we do to guard against worrying?
Jesus adds another encouragement (v32-34)… what does God want to give to us
Read Luke 12: 35-40
Fourth beware… what is it? (Not being ready)
Why is it important to be ready?
What does it mean?
If we live for our future life with God how does that help any concerns we have about hypocrisy, greed or worrying?
Read Luke 12: 54-59
Fifth beware… what is it? (Being spiritually dumb)
What is the danger here?
How tragic that people can predict the movements of the heavenly bodies, split atoms, and even put men on the moon; but people are blind to what God is doing in the world. They know how to get to the stars, but they do not know how to get to heaven!
How we ensure we are spiritually alive and aware?
Witness
