Jesus said, “I am the Alpha and the Omega,
the First and the Last,
the Beginning and the End.”
Rev 22.13
EDGE 3 – Autumn 2005
Light
Welcome
Chill with a drink!
Biscuit balancing
Standing up, with head back, how many biscuits can a person balance on their forehead. they must of course stack the biscuits up one by one and each person has to bend down to pick each biscuit up one by one from the floor, then stand back up to balance each one on their forehead.
Worship
Jesus is the Light of the World. John 8:12
Perhaps get a globe and a candle or alternative light source.
Perhaps play “Light of the World” or read John 8:12 – whatever you do encourage a time of praise towards Jesus – light of the world.
Word
We continue our look at Jesus’ Journey to Jerusalem (JJ2J)
Read Luke 11:29-44
First of all note down all the things / words / phrases that make you go huh?
Can any of the young people help each other out?
Verses 29-32
What is the sign of Jonah? What would the Ninevites have understood when they found out how Jonah had got there?
How is Jesus similar, but even greater than Jonah? (3 days, message of forgiveness)
What is the lesson we can learn from the Queen of Sheba?
Take a look at 1 Kings 10:1-10
How is Jesus similar, but even greater than Solomon (wisdom, riches, splendour)
So what is Jesus saying here – what should the people then do… what should we do?
(If the people of Ninevah turned to God because Jonah was in a big fish and if Queen of Sheba travelled miles and miles to see Soloman – what should we do for someone who is even greater?)
Verse 33-44
What does Jesus criticise the Pharisees for?
(Greed and wickedness – outside looking good!)
(Caring for little details but not for big issues of love and justice)
(Sit in place of honour and recognition but in reality dead!)
Are we guilty of any of these things?
Jesus has just told the crowd the way to make sure we are not like the Pharisees. What is it?
How can we let the light into every corner of our lives?
Verse 35 says “Don’t let the light become darkness… (Youth Bible) or 35Make sure that the light you think you have is not actually darkness. (New Living Translation)
How could that be possible? How can we make sure it doesn’t happen

Witness
Pray to the Light of the World – that his light will invade every area of your life. If you can be honest with each other (perhaps in pairs or threes) tell one another about the areas of your life that are still dark
And pray for one another that the light you do have will shine brightly and will be seen by everyone who comes by!
